China set to increase investments in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 October /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today met a parliamentary delegation from China, headed by the deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (Chinese parliament), Xiangbapingcuo, on a visit to Moldova on 15-17 October, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Attending the event were also Deputy Speaker Vladimir Vitiuc, the leader of the parliamentary faction of the Democratic Party, Marian Lupu, and the deputy head of the parliamentary faction of the Party of Socialists, Andrei Neguta.

Candu and Xiangbapingcuo expressed satisfaction with the positive development of the Moldovan-Chinese bilateral relations set over 23 years of diplomatic relations between Moldova and China.

The speaker thanked the Chinese officials for support provided to Moldova in different sectors, including for the country’s inclusion in the Silk Road project, an economic programme meant to remove barriers on trade and investments between China and Europe.

Candu opted for signing the free trade agreements, protecting investments and avoiding double taxation between Moldova and China, which would significantly contribute to developing the bilateral trade relations.

The speaker voiced confidence in the development potential of Moldovan-Chinese bilateral dialogue both at high and sectoral levels in the fields important for Moldova’s economic development. He remarked the important role of Chinese investments in Moldova and opted for their increase, including in transport infrastructure and renewable energy. At the same time, the speaker assured that the authorities took efforts to improve the investment climate in the country.

The officials also highlighted the good inter-parliamentary cooperation relations and appreciated the two parliaments’ contribution to boosting the economic bilateral exchanges. They opted for bolstering the parliamentary dialogue at the level of commissions and friendship groups, as well as ties between the leaders of political parties.

For his part, Xiangbapingcuo welcomed the achievements recorded by Moldova in development and spoke out for strengthening the bilateral ties between the two countries.

“The Chinese and Moldovan people  have a long-lasting friendship of almost 24 years. Cooperation between our states is enriching constantly in different sectors, trade volume is rising as well," he said.

Referring to a string of proposals for boosting the Moldovan-Chinese short- and medium-term cooperation, the Chinese official announced that his country was set to earmark about 120 billion euros in investments in Europe, Moldova being one of the countries where investment projects are to be implemented. At the same time, the Chinese official assured the Moldovan authorities of support for increasing export of local products to the Chinese market.
