Chisinau, 21 April /MOLDPRES/-Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip signed a petition to the Energy Community, asking it to back the external independent evaluation of the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE), the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

This way, the Moldovan parliament and government commit to develop the energy sector, ensure the efficiency of energy distribution methods and modernize this sector in compliance with EU standards.

“Enhancing the transparency and investment conditions in the energy sector is a key-point on the road map of Moldova’s positive stabilization. We may do this if we enhance transparency and consolidate ANRE’s capacities. To this effect, we have started a tight cooperation with the government and will further stabilize the energy tariff, as well as regulate all the tariffs based on Moldovan citizens’ purchasing power. A better transparency and a more efficient ANRE, will ensure Moldova’s energy tariff stability and independence in this crucial sector,” Candu said. The speaker also thanked the Energy Community and development partners for their support in the implementation of energy reforms.

Boosting up transparency and investment conditions in the energy sector is a joint action provided in the road map of priority reforms, to which both the parliament and the government are committed. The reforms are to be implemented by 31 July 2016.

Moldova joined the Treaty establishing the Energy Community in 2009, committing to consolidate its national energy sector, develop competitiveness on electrical energy and natural gas markets and also integrate them into the EU energy markets.
