Moldova receives first fuel-oil batch of Romanian humanitarian aid

Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/-An amount of 1,300 tons of fuel oil reached Chisinau today. It is the first batch of the 16,000 tons of fuel oil the Romanian government has offered Moldova as humanitarian aid.
Attending the ceremony, during which the fuel oil was received, Romanian Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca said it was the last stage of Romania’s humanitarian transfer to Moldova.
“The first 24 tanks of fuel oil out of 96, which are to be transferred, will be used to alleviate Moldova’s energy burden. They will also serve as material aid for socially-vulnerable people, who find it hard to pay heating bills during the cold season of the year,” Lazurca said.
Attending the event was also Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega. He said the fuel oil will be used by thermal power plants in Chisinau, in compliance with the directions of the Romanian government.
“The fuel oil will be stored at CET-2 (Combined Heat and Power Plant) in Chisinau. Part of it will be used in crisis situations and the rest of it will be donated to almost 40 thousand socially-vulnerable people from Chisinau municipality. During the intergovernmental commission, we are going to set up a method to distribute this aid. However, beneficiaries will probably be partially exempted from paying the heating bills,” Brega noted.
The total price of the fuel oil batch accounts for 58 million lei. Previously, Romania donated over 200 tons of sugar and food parcels accounting for 290 thousand euros (almost 6.4 million lei) to Moldova.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked Romanian authorities for humanitarian aid on 10 February 2016, to back socially-vulnerable families, hurt by Moldova’s difficult economic situation. In response, the Romanian government decided to grant Moldova humanitarian aid accounting for 16.690 million lei (almost 83.7 million Moldovan lei) on 18 February 2016.
