Moldovan arrested businessman's lawyers contest decision by Chisinau Buiucani district court

Chisinau, 25 June /MOLDPRES/ - Lawyers of the Orhei town mayor, Ilan Shor, today submitted a petition to the Buiucani district court of Chisinau, thereby demanding revision of the court’s ruling, issued against Shor, on putting the latter under preventive arrest for 30 days.      

The Buiucani court’s press service has told MOLDPRES that the petition would be submitted to the Chisinau Court of Appeal for consideration and that the judges were to decide the date of the session in a three-day term.  

Magistrates of the Buiucani court on 24 June issued a warrant arrest for 30 days against Ilan Shor. He is charged with swindle in especially large amount, money laundering and providing bad credits on the period when holding the office of head of the administrative board of Banca de Economii (Savings Bank, BEM).

During the court session, more people protested outside the Buiucani court, demanding release of the Orhei mayor.  

On 22 June, Ilan Shor was detained for 72 hours by anti-corruption officers in a new criminal file. The Prosecutor General’s Office brought criminal proceedings against Shor on dubious transactions between BEM and Banca Sociala (Social Bank) back in December 2014. In May 2015, the business man was placed under house arrest for 30 days, with a status of culprit in the BEM file.
