Moldovan premier, Belarusian president discuss prospests for developing bilateral ties

Chisinau, 16 September /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today met President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, within a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.   

The PM highlighted the ascendant character of the bilateral cooperation, as well as the boosting of the bilateral dialogue. At the same time, Pavel Filip welcomed a visit of Belarusian prime minister to Moldova, due on 2-3 October. He noted that this was a good opportunity to identify new possibilities of deepening the bilateral relations and set partnerships in new cooperation sectors.   

At the same time, the prime minister referred to Moldova’s openness for carrying out joint projects on developing the infrastructure to increase the export in Moldovan goods, including fruits and vegetables, as well as wines to the market of Belarus and European Union.  

For his part, President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko praised the constructive character of the bilateral ties, based on friendship and mutual respect. The Belarusian head of state spoke out for fully turning to account the opportunities provided by the Free Trade Zone within CIS and the Free Trade Area between Moldova and the European Union, as well as for boosting the commercial and industrial cooperation between the two states.  

Belarus is one of the main economic partners of Moldova. In 2015, Moldovan companies exported goods worth over 130 million dollars to the market of Belarus, while the imports exceeded 84 million dollars. In the first six months of 2016, the balance of bilateral trade reached 100 million dollars.
