Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - More flights today were delayed at the Chisinau International Airport, because of the heavy snowfall.

The Airport’s information service told MOLDPRES that the snowfall and strong wind had triggered an up to two-hour delay in the take-off and landing of planes bound for London. Also, the landing of a plane from Bucharest was delayed too. At the same time, today, there were delays in the take-offs and landings of planes flying to and from Russia and Istanbul and the Vienna-Chisinau flight was cancelled.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, a representative in relations with public at the Avia Invest company, Mariana Frunza, said that the Chisinau International Airport worked as normal. “Presently, we constantly intervene with our own modern equipment to maintain the runway in the best conditions. Despite the bad weather conditions, the operation of flights on the Chisinau Airport has not been seriously affected,” Frunza said.

Meteorologists issued an orange code of heavy snowfall, snow storm and snow drifts for central and southern Moldova for 6-7 January.  At the same time, the yellow code of sharp weather change is valid for 6-9 January.

On the next days, the air temperature will decrease to -14 Celsius degrees in central Moldova, dropping to -17 degrees at night. In north Moldova, the air temperature will not exceed -15 degrees during the day and -18 degrees at night. In the southern region, the air temperature will go down to -13 degrees, dropping to -16 degrees at night.
