Over 120 localities disconnected from electricity due to hazard weather in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 April /MOLDPRES/ – Around 120 localities in the central and southern districts of Moldova remain partially disconnected from electricity due to strong wind gusts and rainfall on conductors and trees.

According to Gas Natural Fenosa info, these are localities in districts of Criuleni, Straseni, Orhei, Ialoveni, Cimislia, Leova, Ciadir-Lunga, Taraclia, Hincesti, Cantemir, Causeni and Chisinau outskirts.

Press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service, Diana Turcanu, interviewed by the agency said that, due to hazard weather, 35 trees were put down in Moldova, and 7 cars were damaged in Chisinau municipality. "The situation is further monitored, while rescuers and firefighters are ready to intervene to help the citizens. At the same time, we warn the drivers to be prudent driving under these conditions, in order to avoid the risky situations," said Turcanu.

Interviewed by the agency, the head of the Administration of State Road Operational Service, Sergiu Capatina, said that Moldova's routes are under winter conditions. "As a result of the fall of snow and snowfall in the country, patrols and fighting the slider on public roads in the centre of the country began. In the process of work are involved 47 road workers and 22 road auto special units. At the same time, up to now, 208 tons of anti-skidding material have been used", said Capatina.

Press officer of the National Patrol Inspectorate, Natalia Golovco, said for the agency that 61 crews and 122 patrol officers are involved in Moldova to maintain road safety and provide citizens with assistance.

The State Hydrometeorological Service issued Yellow Code, for 18-24 April, throughout Moldova for the sudden cooling of weather, frosts, strong precipitation and wind intensification. Thus, during this period frosts are expected at the surface of the soil with the intensity of -1 ..- 4°C, isolated in air 0...-3°C. Today, tomorrow, heavy rains and rains will fall. The north-east wind will show intensities of up to 17-22 m/s. Tomorrow there will be frosts in the air with the intensity of -1...- 4°C.
