Chisinau, 05 May /MOLDPRES/ – The Ministry of Transports and Road Infrastructure (MTID) states that it will authorize regular motor routes to Italy. The issue on finding out the solution for the authorization of these routes was discussed at the meeting of the Moldovan-Italian Technical Commission on International Transportation of Passengers and Goods in Chisinau on 03-04 May this year.

The Agreement of Moldovan and Italian Governments on the Mutual Regulation of the International Transportation of Passengers and Goods was signed on 19 September 1997, but for 20 years it was not ratified by Italy, that is why it was not possible to authorize regular motor routes between Moldova and Italy.

The Ministry of Transports and Road Infrastructure’s press service mentions that a provisional solution for the authorization of regular passenger motor routes between Moldova and Italy was identified at the meeting of the Technical Commission which is to be applied until the Agreement’s entry into force. The motor routes will be licensed by the Transports Ministry.

According to the MTID’s public relations service, the launch of regular passenger routes to Italy will facilitate access to the regular transport services market for transport operators with good reputation, financial capacity, technical-material basis and professional competence, which will ensure high quality and safety of the provided services.

According to Italian Statistics Bureau, there worked 142,226 Moldovans in Italy in 2016. Additionally, the Italian official statistics indicates that most Moldovans work in Veneto, Lombardia and Emilia Romanga regions, accounting for 2.5 per cent of the total number of migrants in Italy. The number of our countrymen working in Italy has increased by about 40,000 over the recent five years.
