Chisinau, 7 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan-Ukrainian joint border checkpoints on the Transnistrian segment of the frontier, opened in 2017 for the first time ever in the last 25 years, will have a serious impact on Moldova’s security. This is an initiative that will have continuity and we will have joint control at all the Moldovan-Ukrainian border checkpoints from the Transnistrian region, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan has said in an interview given with the MOLDPRES Agency.

“The Transnistrian zone was used by criminal elements to hide from law-enforcement bodies of Moldova. A paradox was happening – sometimes, we used to find people who were hiding from us in states placed at thousands and thousands of kilometers far from Moldova, but were not always able to find them here, at a distance of 60 km far from Chisinau,” Alexandru Jizdan said.

According to the minister, ”presently, the Interior Ministry (MAI) has a good communication with the Ukrainian authorities, colleagues who work directly at the border sectors from both sides have good-neighbour relations every day, exchanging information which give value added to operative actions, as well as of image.”

In another context, the official referred to the cooperation ties with the interior ministries from other countries, such as Georgia and Azerbaijan, where he had recently had job trips. “It is about cooperation in all sectors, especially in fighting the cross-border criminality, combating terrorism, preventing the illegal migration. We face a worsening of the situation on the whole, as we live in the 21st century, when we have new threats for the society, hybrid threats, information crime which is fully developing. All these concern us and we discuss with my colleagues the progress and failures recorded and the good relations and the friendly way of cooperation can prevent some obstacles and mistakes within the reforms set,” Jizdan noted.

More statements and comments by Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan can be watched in a video interview placed on the webpage of the MOLDPRES News Agency (www.moldpres.md).
