Chisinau, 12 September /MOLDPRES/ - Two new cluster models will work in the northern Soroca and southern Cahul cities, which will boost the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in these regions. More exactly, they will give possibility to companies from the creative and textile industries to associate, which will favour the development of joint projects.

Attending the launch event, the state secretary general of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, Iulia Costin, has said that the multiplication of clusters in regions would contribute to speeding up economic processes based on innovations and would back the development of priority branches of the national economy, which have a potential to generate high added value: electronic industry, equipments industry, textile and innovative industry. At the same time, the attraction of foreign investments and technological transfer, appearance of new entrepreneurial activities and the access to new sales markets will be stimulated in this way, Iulia Costin noted.

„The creation of clusters in the key industries with a big growth potential – the textile and creative industry from Soroca and Cahul – will give a new impetus to the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises in regions,” the acting general director of the Organization for Small and Middle Enterprises Sector  Development (ODIMM), Petru Gurgurov, said.

The launch of two clusters was carried out by ODIMM, through the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument of the European Union.

A press release by the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry reads that the international experience shows that the association of producing enterprises, suppliers and state and private institutions working in a certain sector (creation of cluster-type networks) enhances the technological performance and productivity, thus contributing to the competitiveness of companies, market extension and enhancement of the visibility. Studies show that 70 per cent of the clusters from all over the world have a strong or very strong competitive position on market and 60 per cent of them are characterized by a high level of innovation.

Clusters are geographical concentrations of inter-connected institutions and companies in a certain field.
