Chisinau, 11 February /MOLDPRES/- The cabinet of ministers today approved the decision on the establishment of the National Human Rights Council. Its goal is coordinating the elaboration and implementation of human rights policy documents, monitoring and evaluation, implementation of international human rights treaties to which the Republic of Moldova is a party and the fulfillment of the commitments.

The mechanisms for coordinating the implementation of human rights policy documents practiced by the Republic of Moldova so far have been sporadic and inconsistent, the Ministry of Justice notes.

Currently, there are several structures responsible for very important areas, in terms of ensuring the promotion of human rights that do not interact.

According to the Regulation, the Council will have a permanent secretariat to co-ordinate the process of drafting the national action plan on human rights and other human rights policy documents. It will also monitor and evaluate the implementation of human rights policy documents based on information provided by public authorities and other stakeholders.

The Secretariat will coordinate the work of the public authorities to prepare reports on the implementation of the international human rights treaties to which the Republic of Moldova is a party, as well as the process of national implementation of the recommendations formulated by the international human rights protection mechanisms.

The Council will have local structures to draw up local plans and programs on the implementation of national human rights policy documents.

The establishment of the National Council for Human Rights is provided by the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Moldova - EU Association Agreement in 2017-2019.
