Prosecutor in Chisinau detained after extorting 1,500 euros from policeman

Chisinau, 10 October /MOLDPRES/- Prosecutor of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, detained on 9 October by his colleagues, would have extorted 1,500 euros from a policeman. The man was detained in flagrant manner, while receiving the money and was placed under arrest for 72 hours, accused of passive corruption.

The head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, Viorel Morari, said that the criminal case was initiated following a complaint filed by a policeman. The policeman claimed that the prosecutor had asked for 1,500 euros to get a favorable decision in the case in which he was investigated. The official said that the money is intended for him and the prosecutor's office.

The prosecutor accepts his guilt and cooperates with the investigation bodies. "I regret that such an event was possible within the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office", said Morari.

The Anticorruption head said that the criminal case in which the policeman was investigated was closed in late September.
