United States launches message for Moldovan politicians

Chisinau, 8 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Embassy of the United States today placed on its official webpage a message informing that it “supports the efforts of Prime Minister Sandu, President Dodon, and the governing coalition to overcome the current political impasse.”  

In the same message, the USA “urges the country’s political leaders to quickly reach consensus on a solution that will preserve the path toward justice reform and allow the government to work to improve the lives of all Moldovans.”

“Reforms critical to the Republic of Moldova’s democratic development have already been delayed for too long,” the message also reads.  

The dissensions appeared on the Moldovan political stage, after Justice Minister Olesea Stamate earlier this week had cancelled the results of the contest for the office of prosecutor general. On 6 November, the government approved, through procedure of taking responsibility, new rules of selection of the prosecutor general.  

Today morning, the MPs of the Party of Socialists’ faction informed that they would file a motion of censure against the cabinet led by Maia Sandu, if she does not withdraw the draft amending the rules of appointment of the prosecutor general.
