President of France congratulates Maia Sandu on victory in elections

Chisinau, 20 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Embassy of France in Moldova today presented to Moldovan president-elect Maia Sandu a congratulatory letter signed by French President Emmanuel Macron.  

In the letter, the president of France said that ‘’the presidential elections strengthens the democracy in Moldova and in Europe.’’ Macron assured Maia Sandu of the support of France and its European partners in the prosperous, stable and democratic development of Moldova, which gets closer to the European Union.  

„France will keep a close eye on the implementation of the reforms which Moldova committed to carry out within the Association Agreement with EU, especially the ones on justice and rule of law state. Also, it is indispensable that Moldova boosts the fight against corruption and finishes the procedures concerning the massive bank fraud from the past,’’ the letter also reads.  

In the same letter, the French president expressed wish that the Moldova-France relations deepen through regular political dialogue and fostering the economic, cultural and linguistic relations.

So far, more heads of state have congratulated Maia Sandu on the victory in elections, among whom President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski, Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and others.     

On 15 November, the runoff of the presidential elections took place in Moldova. The candidate of the Action and Solidarity Party (PASS), Maia Sandu, won the electoral race, for whom 57.75 per cent of the electors voted, while 42.25 per cent voted for her counter-candidate Igor Dodon.
