Moldovan foreign affairs minister meets Ukrainian counterpart

Chisinau, 13 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu has had a meeting with Foreign Affairs Minister of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba, on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign affairs ministers of the G7 states, held in the Weissenhaus settlement (Germany), the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.    

The two officials had discussions on the developments concerning the regional security, in the context of the Russia’s continuous military aggression against the Ukrainian neighbours. On this occasion, Deputy PM Popescu reaffirmed Moldova’s support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. Also, Minister Nicu Popescu informed his Ukrainian counterpart about the actions undertaken by the Moldovan authorities to back Ukraine, including within international organizations.    

The Moldovan official reiterated Moldova’s willingness to detach a contingent of sappers to Ukraine, in order to contribute to areas’ demining, to ensure the security of the civilians.   

„I assured Dmytro Kuleba of the every openness to further provide assistance to the Ukrainian citizens who are temporarily in Moldova, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian side; the interlocutors voiced hope for the as soon as possible ceasing of the war in Ukraine,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu noted.   

A priority subject of the discussions was the electro-energy sector.  

At the same time, the sides referred to the two countries’ European aspirations. Moldova and Ukraine handed over the filled in questionnaire for getting the status of country candidate for accession to the European Union; this represents an important step on the way of integration into the European family – a desideratum shared by both nations.
