Moldova, NATO strengthen resilience of energy sector against cyber, hybrid threats

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ - Experts from the NATO and Moldova enhance the resilience of Moldova’s critical energy infrastructure against the cyber and hybrid threats. The exercise, Coherent Resilience 2024 Moldova (CORE-24 M) took place in Chisinau on 12-14 March 2024.  The Energy Ministry cooperated with the North Atlantic Alliance to this end, in partnership with the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence.     

„NATO has an important dimension of civilian cooperation and a long history of cooperation with Moldova. In the energy sector, the digitalization brings new opportunities, as well as risks and threats of significant importance. We should make sure that our civil energy infrastructure is not attacked on ill-meaning purposes,’’ Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said.   

CORE-24 M was focused on the deepening of the cooperation between the energy operators from Moldova and cyber protection institutions, making sure that the country is prepared to cope with the non-conventional security threats. The ministries, governmental agencies and the private sector participated in the exercise, in order to contribute to the consolidation of the cooperation.  

Attending the event was a Romanian delegation, which highlighted the cooperation between the NATO in the region with the partners in danger. The exercise was backed also by the NATO Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence, Lithuanian Armed Forces, European Union Joint Research Centre, New Strategy Centre from Romania and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. According to the Energy Ministry, over 100 participants from 10 nations and 32 institutions were presented at the event.
