Moldova concludes bilateral screening process in Brussels

Moldova today completed the bilateral screening process in Brussels, which started in July 2024. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has made statements to this effect. During the exercise, experts from public institutions analyzed over 100,000 pages of national legislation compared to the one of the European Union.

The last chapter discussed was Chapter 33 – Financial and Budgetary Provisions, a stage marking the transition from technical reforms to assuming the responsibilities of a future EU member state.

"What Moldova managed to achieve in just 15 months is a great performance," said Cristina Gherasimov. She thanked the European Integration Office team and state institution officials for their contribution to this process.

According to the official, the completion of the screening confirms that "Moldova is a country in which the EU can have confidence."

The bilateral screening process is a detailed analysis of national legislation compared to the EU acquis and represents an essential stage in the negotiations on accession to the European Union. Its completion is regarded as a major step in Moldova's European path, which got its status of country candidate for accession in June 2022.
