Moldovan PM has meeting with European top bank's representatives
Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ - The projects implemented in Moldova with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) – the biggest institutional investor of Moldova – today were discussed at a meeting of Prime Minister Dorin Recean with EBRD representatives.
During discussions, PM Dorin Recean said that the EBRD’s financial and expertise support was precious for the Moldovan authorities, especially in the carrying out of the dynamic European agenda of the government.
„We must boost our strategic dialogue, in order to optimize and speed up the carrying out of the infrastructure projects, on strengthening the governance of the banking sector and of the public institutions’ capacities,’’ the prime minister said.
The participants in the meeting analyzed the preparation for the launch of projects on optimization of the system of centralized supply with thermal energy in Chisinau, operational modernization of the post services, as well as the work of the Giurgiulesti Free International Port.
At the same time, the sides discussed the importance of the development of the private sector, through providing advantageous financing projects, in cooperation with the banking sector. Given that over 20 per cent of EBRD portfolio of projects is oriented to the private environment, the need to back the agriculture and the insurances for farmers was emphasized.
The office of EBRD’s resident representation in Chisinau was opened in 1996. On the period of the Bank’s work in Moldova, the sides signed agreements for the financing of about 173 projects worth more than 2.3 billion euros. Presently, 68 projects worth 1.2 billion euros are active in Moldova in the financial and banking sector, the fields of roads and railway infrastructure, energy, agriculture, waste management, etc.
