About the establishment and development of the institution: State News Agency “MOLDPRES” – a symbol of national rebirth
State News Agency “MOLDPRES” has its origins in the turbulent period of national rebirth in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In 1990, in a context marked by the transition to independence and the affirmation of national identity, the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan SSR (the current Parliament of the Republic of Moldova) decided to liquidate the Moldovan Telegraph Agency – an instrument of Soviet propaganda – and ordered the establishment of a new media institution: “Moldova-pres” National News Agency.
The new agency was to be under the authority of the Parliament and reflect the political, social, and cultural realities of the new historical stage. “Moldova-pres” was conceived as an institution designed to contribute to the affirmation of the informational sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, to accurately inform the public, and to support the democratization process.
Over the years, the agency has evolved into MOLDPRES—a benchmark for institutional journalism and a pillar of official information dissemination in the Republic of Moldova.
The year 2025 marks new achievements in institutional cooperation. MOLDPRES is expanding its partnerships with European and Eastern Partnership news agencies, as well as with media institutions of national importance in the Republic of Moldova.
