CEC: Electoral period begins for elections to People’s Assembly of Gagauzia
The electoral period for the elections of deputies to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia begins today, 28 August 2026, while the ballot will be held on 15 November 2026. The election campaign will start on 16 October.
According to the electoral calendar approved for the organization and conduct of the ballot, the electoral period includes all the stages necessary for preparing and holding the elections. According to the Central Electoral Commission, in the coming period the lower-level electoral bodies and polling stations are to be established.
At the same time, documents for the registration of candidates for deputy in the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will be received and examined. The electoral authorities will update the voters’ lists and carry out activities to inform them, as well as to train electoral officials. The final stages will include organizing the voting process and summing up the results. The electoral period will end after the confirmation of the election results and the validation of the mandates of the deputies elected to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, in accordance with legal provisions.
The ballot for electing deputies to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia is scheduled for 15 November 2026, and the electoral campaign will begin 30 days earlier, on 16 October. On 24 August, Parliament voted a series of amendments to the Electoral Code that establish new rules for elections in Gagauzia and allow them to be held on 15 November.
The draft consolidates the status of the Central Electoral Council of Gagauzia by clarifying its responsibilities and integrating it into the unified system of electoral administration. The institution will consist of at least seven and at most 11 members. The designated persons will have to meet the same eligibility conditions and be subject to the same verification procedures provided by law for holders of and candidates for public office.
