Chisinau maintains position on withdrawal of Russian troops and demilitarization of Transnistrian region

The Republic of Moldova maintains its position on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the country’s territory and the demilitarization of the Transnistrian region, regardless of data concerning the quantity of ammunition stored at Cobasna, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri told an exclusive interview with MOLDPRES.

The statement was made in the context of a report by the Intelligence and Security Service, according to which, out of the 14,000 tons of ammunition at Cobasna, 2,800 tons still contain an effective explosive charge.

Chiveri emphasized that the issue should be analyzed from two distinct perspectives. The first is the technical dimension, concerning the quantity, condition, and nature of the ammunition stored at Cobasna. The second is the security dimension, which the official considers to be of major importance.

“For the Republic of Moldova, the issue is very clear: the presence of foreign military forces on our territory and the existence of weapons depots outside the control of the constitutional authorities represent a security issue, and our principled position is not changing,” the deputy prime minister said.

According to Valeriu Chiveri, Chisinau continues to advocate for the withdrawal of Russian troops and the demilitarization of the Transnistrian region.

At the same time, the official noted that these issues must be addressed “in a responsible, technical manner,” including together with the Republic of Moldova’s international partners.
