Chisinau, 31 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- Denmark wants to strengthen a strong friendship and partnership with the Republic of Moldova. Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen made the statement at a joint press briefing with President Maia Sandu in Chisinau.

The official congratulated the Republic of Moldova on receiving the status of a candidate country for EU accession. "You are an important partner for Denmark. We discussed the green transition today and we are sure there are many areas of work. We are glad that given the difficulties arising from the war in Ukraine, you have preserved such a strong democracy. These consequences are a big challenge for you, and we are working to ease your burden. We have all respect for the authorities in Chisinau and for the citizens of the country, who have helped the refugees from Ukraine so much. We are impressed by your gesture," said Mette Frederiksen.

Maia Sandu said that today's visit will give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation, including in renewable energy. "Denmark is a European leader in the waste management, an example from which we want to learn. We want to cooperate in the economic sector and increase investments. Currently, there are 36 companies with Danish capital in our country. However, development requires peace. We can only survive as a democratic country by joining the EU. The Republic of Moldova is making every effort to advance on the European path. Keeping the peace is a priority for us. From the first day of the war in Ukraine, we condemned Russian aggression and opened the doors to refugees. Thank you for your help in managing the refugee crisis. We want peace to return to Europe", Maia Sandu said.

Mette Frederiksen today made a short stop in the Republic of Moldova during her visit to Ukraine. This is the first visit of a Danish prime minister to our country.
