Deputy Prime Minister in Sofia: Bulgaria - reliable partner of Moldova and supporter of European path

Bulgaria is a reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova and a supporter of our European path. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi made the statement. He held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Ivo Hristov in Sofia.

The two officials reviewed relations between the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria, the priorities on our country’s European agenda, and discussed ways to develop and harness existing initiatives in areas of mutual interest, particularly education and culture.


“Bulgaria is a reliable partner of the Republic of Moldova and a supporter of our European path. We have strong ties, built over time, and we want to develop them through projects that deliver concrete results for our citizens. The Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova plays an important role in bringing our countries closer together,” Popșoi said.


Ivo Hristov praised Chișinău authorities' commitment to creating the conditions necessary to preserve and protect the national, cultural, and linguistic identity of the Bulgarian community. He also emphasized that Bulgaria supports the European integration of the Republic of Moldova and is ready to share its experience gained during the European Union accession process.

Mihai Popșoi thanked Bulgaria for implementing several initiatives, including the establishment of public service delivery centers in Taraclia district, the modernization of the Bulgarian-language study room at Ivan Vazov Gymnasium, and the renovation of the History and Ethnography Museum in the village of Cairaclia. In this context, the importance of the Taraclia branch of Angel Kanchev University of Ruse, inaugurated on May 24, 2025, was highlighted. It provides new study opportunities for young people in the region.

The sides also discussed updating the bilateral framework for cooperation in education, as well as continuing programs for teachers and supporting education in the Bulgarian language.

Popșoi paid an official visit to Sofia, Bulgaria, on 9 September. The visit’s agenda included meetings with several officials, including President of the Republic of Bulgaria Iliana Iotova, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Mihaela Dotsova, Chair of the National Assembly’s Foreign Policy Committee Petar Vitanov, and Chair of Bulgaria-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group Galin Durev.
