Moldova's Foreign Ministry condemns Russian attacks on Ukraine
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) strongly condemns the attacks by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which, during the previous night, also targeted the area in the immediate vicinity of the border with the Republic of Moldova, near Tudora (Republic of Moldova)–Starokazacie (Ukraine) border crossing point. The institution emphasized that military actions conducted in the vicinity of our country pose a direct risk to the security of the Republic of Moldova and its citizens.
According to the MFA, the attacks resulted in loss of life and injuries, including among Ukrainian border police officers. In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed condolences to the families of those who died and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Also, during the previous day, a drone was reported to have fallen outside the village of Mihăilenii Vechi, Rîșcani district. Fragments of a drone with characteristics similar to those of a Geran type drone were identified at the scene, and the impact caused an explosion.
The MFA emphasized that these incidents once again demonstrate the serious consequences of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the risks it creates for the security of the Republic of Moldova and regional stability.
“The Republic of Moldova stands in solidarity with Ukraine and condemns the attacks that endanger people’s lives and the security of communities in the border area. Military actions conducted in the immediate vicinity of our country pose a direct risk to the security of the Republic of Moldova and its citizens,” the MFA stated.
A drone fell on Tuesday in a sunflower field outside the village of Mihăilenii Vechi, Rîșcani district. As a result, four fires broke out. No injuries were reported. The incident was reported after the authorities announced that an unmanned aerial vehicle had illegally entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova from Ukraine. Shortly afterward, it left the country’s airspace, heading toward Romania. Subsequently, the drone returned from the direction of Iași, and the crash of an aircraft was reported.
Also, Starokazacie border crossing point in Ukraine, located near the border with the Republic of Moldova, was attacked by a drone during the night of September 8–9. As a result of the attack, two civilians died and two others were injured.
