VIDEO // Moldovan parliament to convene at extraordinary meeting to declare state of emergency in energy, hydrological sectors

The parliament will convene on September 22 at 14:30 at an extraordinary meeting, in order to consider declaring a state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors, after Prime Minister Vasile Tofan proposes the measure at a cabinet meeting scheduled for 9:00.

The decision was made following today’s meeting of the National Security Council, chaired by President Maia Sandu.

“It was agreed to convene the parliament in an extraordinary session tomorrow. I will provisionally propose 14:30, when the government will come to ask parliament to declare a state of emergency in the energy and water supply sectors. The government will present the necessary arguments; it needs additional tools to act quickly and ensure that the country, our institutions and our communities have access to energy, electricity, natural gas and fuel,” said Igor Grosu.

The government will go before Parliament to request the declaration of a state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors, amid risks to energy supplies and an alarming decrease in the flow of the Dniester River. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan made statements to this effect after the meeting of the National Security Council.

The state of emergency is to be considered by the parliament, as Moldova faces risks to its energy security and a difficult hydrological situation marked by reduced flows in the Dniester River.
