Chisinau, 5 October /MOLDPRES/- Suspended General Prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo was detained tonight for 72 hours. He was escorted by masked men from the Intelligence and Security Service to the Detention Center on Tighina Street in the capital.
After more than three hours of searches at the General Prosecutor's Office, the masked men also went down to Stoianoglo's house.
The searches took place during the criminal investigation launched by prosecutor appointed today by the Superior Council of Prosecutors Victor Furtuna for the analysis of a notification by MP Lilian Carp.
According to Article 55/1 of Law No3/2016 regarding the Prosecutor's Office, ”the mandate of the general prosecutor regarding which the criminal investigation was initiated under the conditions of Art. 270 (7) of the Criminal Procedure Code is suspended by law during the criminal investigation period”.
“Also, by the effect of the law (Art. 18 (4) Law No3/2016 on the Prosecutor's Office) the deputies of the general prosecutor are also suspended by law.
Tonight, Stoianoglo announced a briefing at PG, but it did not take place. Also this evening, the CSP members tried to convene in a meeting to appoint a new interim leadership of the PG, but the meeting failed due to lack of quorum.
