Moldovan speaker says Romania good example to be followed in fighting corruption

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu met President of Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania Valeriu Stefan Zgonea today. The officials tackled the priorities of the autumns session of the parliament, projects on backing Moldova in the European integration, transfer of good practices between the Moldovan and Romanian parliaments, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.

”The parliamentary agenda for the autumn session is an ambitious one, with important sets of reforms in justice, financial and banking sector, fighting corruption, adoption of agricultural package and legislative amendments in the audiovisual area, as well as the enforcement of the Association Agreement with EU. The parliament and government have a common vision as to implementing commitments assumed within the Association Agreement and a clear agenda containing concrete actions and terms of implementation,” Candu said.

Candu highlighted that Romania was a good example to be followed by Moldova in fighting corruption. He added that the system of fighting against corruption was to be reset next week.

The sides also approached the importance to promote a joint message regarding Moldova's European integration, which Moldova and Romania should back before foreign development partners. At the same time, the officials stressed the need to absorb European funds through cross-border projects.

Valeriu Zgonea assured that Moldova continued to be a priority for Romania and Moldova would also be supported without reserve in the European integration. Valeriu Stefan Zgonea encouraged the authorities to deeply carry out reforms and specified that the implementation of the Association Agreement was vital for modernising Moldova.

”Romania supports Moldova as strong as before and at the level of state institutions. Moldova does not need revolution, but evolution. Continue your road, regardless of efforts, continue to reform and modernise Moldova,” Zgonea said.

At the same time, Valeriu Stefan Zgonea welcomed the reforms agenda announced by Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu for the autumn session and highlighted the need of an exchange of experts at parliamentary level, as well as of other state institutions, in order to be easier understand the implementation of the European directives and legislation.

Zgonea said that the decision allowing the Romanian citizens to cross Moldova's border only on the basis of the identity card was a simplified procedure for the passengers and goods transport,; this is also an openness for regional investments and a signal that the chosen European path was a very good.

Attending the meeting also were Deputy Parliament Speaker, the head of parliamentary delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Liliana Palihovici, the head of the foreign policy and European integration commission, Igor Corman, the chief of the commission for human rights and inter-ethnic relations, Vladimir Turcan, the head of the Liberal Party's parliamentary faction, Mihai Ghimpu, MPs Maria Ciobanu, Nae-Simion Plesca, Dumitru Diacov, Ion Apostol and Andrei Neguta.
