Forty-three policemen suffered following 24 April protest in Chisinau

Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ -  More employees of the law enforcement bodies suffered in the wake of the 24 April protest ,organized by the Dignity and Truth Civic Platform in Chisinau. The head of the criminal investigation department at the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Grigore Moga, made statements to this effect today.

According to Moga, it is about 43 policemen, of whom “19 sought medical advice on the day of protests, five are still in hospital, under doctors' supervision and other employees later went to hospitals from their native settlements”, Moga said.

Grigore Moga also said that material damage was caused, after three cars had been deteriorated, and tires of two buses were cut, with the damage estimated at 30,000 lei.

One person was detained following clashes, later a warrant of preventive arrest was issued for him for 20 days. The man was charged with applying violence on police officers.

“At the same time, 74 police employees were heard within the investigation. The protest’s organizers have not been heard, for the time being," he added.

After the manifestation, citizens submitted three complaints on alleged abuse by police during protests.

Law enforcers continue investigating the case. The guilty people run the risk of being sentenced to 4 - 8 years of imprisonment.

A large-scale protest was staged in Chisinau on 24 April against the government and a decision by the Central Electoral Commission on turning down the initiative to organize a constitutional referendum. Protesters adopted a resolution asking the government to urgently set the date of snap polls, held concomitantly with the presidential elections and constitutional referendum.
