Sanctions to drivers caught drunk to be tightened in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ – The penalties for driving intoxicated vehicles will be tightened. A draft law on it was adopted today by the Parliament in its first reading.
According to draft, it will be introduced a new article in the Code of Contravention of Moldova, which provides for withdrawal of driving licence for drivers which are caught drunk while driving until court decision. Similarly, Penal Code will be complemented by a new article – which will regulate procedure of deprivation or cancellation of right to drive means of transport.
The project also includes inclusion of withdrawal procedure in legislation. Other amendments provide for increase in fines for drunk drivers. It is also proposed that drunk driving drivers which have been deprived of this right by court decision should be required to attend the probationary anti – alcohol and anti – drug programme established by probation counselor.
