Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - The former head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA), Viorel Morari, will stay in the isolation ward during 20 days. Magistrates of the Ciocana district Court of Chisinau took a decision to this effect today.

According to information provided by the Prosecutor General’s Office, a charge was brought against Viorel Morari on 11 January for abuse of power and forgery of public acts, after which he was heard in this capacity.

Morari was detained on 10 January, being recognized as suspect of abuse of power and forgery of public acts. Viorel Morari is suspected that, in March 2017, he received a complaint from the former leader of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, which he registered contrary to the legal requirements, by opening a criminal file and subsequently the criminal prosecution and thus forging more procedural acts in the criminal file. All these actions were made in personal interests, as well as in the interest of the former Democrat leader and more persons from his entourage, in order to protect them from involvement as suspects in the criminal file on the bank fraud.

Today, the former PA head told journalists that he had been detained and inquired at an order by politicians and his case was meant to distract public’s attention from other problems.
