DOC // Moldova joins US-imposed sanctions on Russian oil companies
The Republic of Moldova is complying with the international restrictive measures imposed by the United States against Russian oil companies. A decision in this regard was made by the Interinstitutional Supervisory Council and published in the Official Journal.
According to the document, the decision was approved "considering the risks generated by the activities of sanctioned Russian oil companies for financing and supporting Russia's aggression capabilities, which indirectly contribute to destabilizing regional security, amplifying threats to international order, and affecting the security interests of the Republic of Moldova, in order to prevent the use of the national financial and economic system in support of these activities".
In late October, the United States Treasury Department announced sanctions against two major Russian oil companies, "to reduce Moscow's ability to finance its war effort in Ukraine." Shortly after the announcement, Chisinau authorities stated that they are analyzing the effects of the sanctions, as well as their potential impact on the petroleum products market in the Republic of Moldova.
