Chisinau, Dec. 21 /MOLDPRES/- Financing for the construction of Ungheni (RO) – Ungheni (MD) road bridge, a project submitted by Romania under the Connecting Europe Facility CEF program was approved of around 16.5 million euros. Shortly, the tender procedure for the execution of the works will begin, according to sources of the Ministry of Transport from Bucharest.
"The Ungheni bridge is a necessity for both Romania and Moldova, the purpose of which is to support the economic, social and fraternal relations between the two sides. It will help improve Romania's economic competitiveness by developing the transport infrastructure, serving the international transit traffic of goods and people", according to the quoted source.
The bridge is part of the A8 Motorway project and will also have a border crossing point. "It will interconnect the road infrastructures between both states: the Târgu Mureș - Iași - Ungheni highway - the state border (on the territory of Romania) and the national road R1 Chisinau - Ungheni - the border with Romania (on the territory of the Republic of Moldova)", according to the ministry.
