Moldovan government approves Tourism 2029 National Tourism Development Programme
The government has approved the National Tourism Development Programme for 2026–2029 – Tourism 2029. The programme aims to transform tourism into an engine of economic growth, capable of attracting more visitors, generating additional income for businesses and communities and creating new jobs across the country.
The document treats tourism as a strategic economic sector, with a direct impact on regional development, export of services, investment, local entrepreneurship and the promotion of cultural and natural heritage.
The Programme’s implementation will be carried out through an Action Plan for the period 2026–2029. A budget of 618.2 million lei is allocated for its implementation. Through the planned measures, the authorities estimate an increase in tourism’s contribution to the national economy and the creation of about 5,000 new jobs.
The actions planned target the development and modernization of tourist infrastructure, training of specialists in the field and promotion of the tourism offer through modern digital solutions. At the same time, the Programme will support the development of rural tourism and will contribute to a more efficient capitalization of the cultural, natural, wine-growing and wine-making heritage of Moldova.
In 2025, the tourism sector recorded over 600,000 visitors and revenues exceeding five billion lei, which confirms the growing interest in tourist destinations of Moldova.
