
Moldovan President meets Secretary General of Council of Europe in Strasbourg
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met in Strasbourg with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset. The meeting took place in the context of preparations for our country's upcoming Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from November 2025 to May 2026.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation through the Republic of Moldova - Council of Europe Action Plan and adopting new measures to defend democracy and increase resilience against external interference.
The head of state highlighted the contribution of the Council of Europe, including the Parliamentary Assembly, the Venice Commission and the European Court of Human Rights to Moldova's democratic development and the strengthening of the rule of law. Maia Sandu reaffirmed the commitment to continue reforms, especially in justice, in accordance with the citizens' expectations and requirements related to the accession to the European Union.
Additionally, the President confirmed Moldova's willingness to actively contribute during the Presidency to the strengthening of democracy, the rule of law and European unity.
