Elections 2025 // Greater Moldova Party excluded from electoral race

The Greater Moldova Political Party has been excluded from the electoral race, under a decision adopted by the Central Election Commission (CEC), with six votes for and three abstentions. The decision came after examining a complaint submitted by the European Social Democratic Party, which accused the party of  financing from abroad and cooperation with the fugitive oligarch, Ilan Shor, referencing an investigation conducted by NordNews.

During the meeting, Victoria Furtuna, the president of Greater Moldova, challenged six members of the CEC and announced that she would contest the decision at the Court of Appeal.

In his report, Pavel Postica, CEC vice president, cited several materials submitted by law-enforcement institutions, including the Orhei Police Inspectorate, Balti Police Inspectorate, National Investigation Inspectorate, Gagauzia Police Department, National Anti-Corruption Center, and the Intelligence and Security Service.

These documents allegedly proved the party's involvement in:

• using undeclared funds;

• using money from abroad for the electoral campaign;

• electoral corruption;

• participating in a concealed electoral bloc through associations and voting promotions by Ilan Shor and the Victory Bloc, previously disqualified and restricted;

• involving the Church (Metropolitan See of Moldova) in the electoral campaign;

• massive influence of the electoral rights;

• direct assistance from the Russian Federation.

‘’The registration of candidates for the position of lawmaker of Moldova on behalf of the Greater Moldova Political Party is annulled. The decision will be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice,’’ said Pavel Postica at the meeting.

In turn, Victoria Furtună accused CEC members of abuses and violating the right to defense:

'Mr. Postică has shown that he abuses his functional duties, as he is not the competent person to exclude us from this race, to limit us, or to decide in place of a court. I believe these actions are biased, unilateral, and contrary to national and international legal standards. You have violated our right to defense because you did not allow us to review the material contents. This decision will be annulled, the process will be suspended, and the Court of Appeal will make a legal decision,' stated the party leader.

The exclusion decision was adopted with six votes in favor and three abstentions from members of the Central Election Commission.
