Amendments to Criminal Code to be published in Official Journal of Moldova
Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/- The amendments to the Criminal Code to tighten the sanctions for corruption offenses will be published in tomorrow's issue of the Official Journal.
Some corruption offenses are transferred from the category of less serious crimes to the category of serious crimes. The new legal framework will provide the possibility for criminal prosecution bodies with additional procedural tools, which will improve the activity in the criminal investigation phase in order to counter the phenomenon of corruption. Also, the term of imprisonment for corruption is increased to 8 years.
The new amendments will create prerequisites for unitary court practices in dealing with corruption cases, as it will not be possible to apply the rules on criminal liability with criminal prosecution, conviction with conditional suspension of execution and release due to changing situation.
