Defense Ministry committed to identifying opportunities to enhance state's defense capabilities - minister says
The Defense Ministry is committed to identifying opportunities to enhance the state's defense capabilities, and air defense remains a priority. Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi made the statements today.
“The Ministry of Defense is committed to identifying opportunities to enhance the state's defense capabilities. In this context, we cooperate with our partners, international organizations. Here I note the support from the EU. Air defense remains a priority for us and in addition to the airspace monitoring systems, we have identified the possibility to discuss and move to the next stage regarding airspace defense systems,” he said.
The minister said that potential assistance from the European Union is being discussed.
“It is under discussion, not yet approved. The final decision is expected in the coming days. I hope it will be in the interest of the Republic of Moldova. We are discussing air defense systems. Our goal is to ensure peace and security, so citizens are safe, to avoid cases of illegal airspace overflights, and to prevent drones from exploding near schools or hospitals. Citizens' safety is a priority,” he said.
Nosatîi said that the assistance our country might receive is non-reimbursable. “These are non-reimbursable aids. All the manipulations on the issue that we are taking loans and children will have to pay are falsehoods used by the opposition to mislead public opinion,” he said.
