A drone unauthorizedly flew over the national airspace and exploded in the open land outside the settlements of Geamăna and Văratic in Anenii Noi District. The incident occurred last night, amid the massive attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Defense, during the night of October 10 to 11, a sound resembling that produced by a drone was heard, followed by an explosion. No casualties were reported.
“Teams from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations went to the site to investigate the case. Following an inspection of the area, the object was located near the settlement of Geamăna,” the institution said.
Authorities announced that the available air surveillance systems, as well as the support systems, did not record any unauthorized flights over the national airspace during that period, most likely because the aircraft was flying at a low altitude.
Specialists from the police’s Technical and Explosives Division are expected to examine the object and establish all the circumstances.
Since the beginning of the current year, 57 incidents involving violations of the country’s airspace have been recorded, while from 2022 to the present, their number has reached 94.
Authorities urge people who identify drones, missiles, or fragments of such objects not to approach or touch them. Cases must be reported immediately to the competent authorities by calling the 112 emergency service.
