Energy compensation for 720,000 households
Over 720,000 households in the Republic of Moldova received energy compensation for the cold season from November 2024 to March 2025. The average value of the compensations was 772 lei, with the most energy vulnerable families benefiting from nearly double that amount.
Elena and Andrei Smîntînă's family from Prepelița village, Sângerei district is one of the beneficiaries of the energy compensation offered this season. The couple, who have six children, say that during the winter, the energy compensations eased a bit of their responsibility to ensure comfort and health for the little ones, especially during the cold months of the year.
The Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund has been operating for the third consecutive cold season. This season, the compensations were offered with the support of Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, which donated 1 billion 150 million lei, while the remaining 1 billion 540 million were provided from Moldova’s budget.
In the 2024-2025 cold season, UNDP and the Government of Italy supported the operation of the call center, whose operators responded to over 136,000 phone calls and almost 32,000 emails from citizens, and the modernization of the IT system on which the largest government program Help with the Meter operates.
