Two drone incidents recorded near Moldova–Ukraine border in Giurgiulești
Two incidents caused by drones were recorded today near the state border of the Republic of Moldova, in Giurgiulești area, following Russian attacks on port infrastructure in Reni, Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the first incident occurred at around 03:45. A patrol from the Giurgiulești Border Police Sector, on duty at the Giurgiulești–Reni Border Crossing Point, observed an explosion in a truck parking lot on Ukrainian territory, approximately 150 meters from the border crossing point.
Following the explosion, a vegetation fire broke out, spreading over an estimated area of 70–100 square meters and reaching the territory of the Republic of Moldova. At 03:50, a firefighter crew was requested via the 112 Service, and the fire was contained at 04:30.
A second incident was recorded at 09:25. The mobile patrol of the Giurgiulești Border Police Sector discovered, about one kilometer from the state border, on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, a crater containing the remains of a drone. Among these were identified the engine, the power board and parts of the propeller.
The area was secured, and the 112 Service was alerted to the scene. The operational group of the Cahul Police Inspectorate is conducting investigations, while experts from the technical-explosive unit are examining the origin of the aircraft, its route and the circumstances of the incident.
During the attacks on the targets in Reni, employees of the Border Police and other institutions operating in the border area, on duty at the Giurgiulești Border Crossing Point, as well as people present in the area, were exposed to the risks generated by the military actions carried out near the border of the Republic of Moldova.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs advises citizens not to approach drone debris, munitions or other unknown objects and to immediately notify the authorities via the 112 Service. If citizens hear noises specific to drones or explosions near the border, they are urged to remain calm, take shelter in a safe place and follow only the information provided by the authorities.
