Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/ - The contract on Russian gas supply has been extended till 31 December 2015. The supplement to the contract provides for the latter's prolongation by one year. The document was signed by Moldovagaz Manager Alexandr Gusev and Deputy President of the Gazprom Administration Council Aleksandr Medvedev in Chisinau today.
The agreement on gas transit on Moldova's territory was also prolonged.
„This is an achievement. The energy security towards which we tend is ensured,” Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Andrian Candu said after the signing of the documents. Candu informed that, under the contract, Moldova would import the Russian gas at a price of 331.8 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters in 2015.
Over the past two quarters, Moldovagaz has paid for the gas purchased from Gazprom 378 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters.
„The supplements to the agreements are adjusted to the market requirements, both on gas supply to Moldova and gas transit to the Balkans,” Aleksandr Medvedev said. After the signing, „Moldova will be sure that it will not remain without gas and Russia will be sure that the transit will be made without problems”. The contract in force was signed in December 2006 and expired on 31 December 2011. Since then, the agreement was successively prolonged the next years.
The 2006 contract provided for a gradual increase of the import price. As a result, the purchase increased from the average of 76.1 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters in 2005 to about 380 dollars per 1,000 cubic meters in 2013.
The Russian authorities conditioned the signing of a new agreement by Moldova giving up to the documents signed within the European Energy Treaty and solving of the issue on gas debts, which would amount to over 4 billion dollars.
