Moldovan high voltage power lines to be modernized, aligned with EU standards

Chisinau, 6 April /MOLDPRES/-The Economics Ministry carried out and submitted for public consultations a government draft decision amending the legislation on the implementation of a project providing for the construction and rehabilitation of five 110 kV transmission power lines in compliance with EU standards.
According to the Economics Ministry’s communication and public relations department, the rehabilitation and construction of the power lines interconnecting Drochia district- Suri village, Suri village-Donduseni district, Chisinau municipality-Hincesti district, Hincesti district-Cneazevca village and Soldanesti district-Ignatei village, is implemented by Moldelectrica state enterprise with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Commission. The total cost of the project accounts for 40 million euros, whereas 5.3 million euros of the total sum will be invested in these five transmission lines. Modernization and construction of the power networks is to be performed within 24 months.
The project aims to modernize the power infrastructure system, align it with EU standards and get it ready for being connected to the ENTSO-E ( European Network of Transmission System Operators) EU power system.
The amendments provide for the expropriation of land crossed by the high-voltage power lines. According to the draft law, the construction and rehabilitation of the five power lines will be declared as works of public utility and national interest.
Moldelectrica state enterprise had already completed design works and signed contracts on the allotment of land for these power lines. The contract for the enforcement of the construction and installation works is at the final stage of the tender.
