Moldovan political representatives meet in negotiation process for Transnistrian settlement in Bender

Chisinau, 08 September /MOLDPRES/ – The working meeting of the political representatives in the process of negotiations for the Transnistrian settlement of Chisinau and Tiraspol, Gheorghe Balan and Vitali Ignatiev, attended by the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office for the Regulation, Wolf Dietrich Heim, the head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Michael Scanlan, and the representatives of the mediators and observers from the "5+2" format took place at the headquarters of the OSCE Mission in Bender today.

According to the office for reintegration policies’ press service, the purpose of the meeting was to continue the consultations of the parties on the most current subjects on the agenda of the negotiations, review the progress made in the work of the sectoral working groups, exchange views on the possibilities of advancing the dialogue and identifying durable and viable solutions to issues of major interest for the inhabitants of both banks of the Dniester.

In particular, the following themes were addressed:

- measures to organize the interaction in the telecommunications field;

- the way of admission of vehicles from the Transnistrian region to international road traffic;

- the interconnection of some rail transport networks;

- removing existing barriers to free movement between banks;

- unblocking access for farmers and economic agents from Dubasari district to the agricultural lands on the Camenca-Tiraspol road;

- solving the problems encountered by Moldovan schools teaching in the Latin script in the Transnistrian region;

- the prospects for continued cooperation between companies providing services in the field of compulsory motor third party liability insurance;

- the discharge of five tonnes of ammonia from the Tiraspol meat plant.

It was agreed on the need to boost the work of sectoral working groups in order to determine technical options for addressing priority issues and to create the necessary premises for an efficient conduct of negotiations within the "1+1" and "5+2" dialogue formats.

At the end of the meeting, the political representatives from Chisinau and Tiraspol and the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office for Transnistrian conflict settlement held press briefings.
