Council of Europe for Human Rights to support judiciary reform in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 October /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks, today, who is paying an official visit to Moldova.
According to the MAEIE’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service, during the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on the achievements since the Commissioner's last visit in 2013 and reconfirmed the importance of the partnership between Moldova and the Council of Europe, implemented through the Action Plan 2017-2020. In this context, actions have been evoked to strengthen the independent institutions for human rights, justice reform and development of the new policy document in the field, carried out also with the support of the Council of Europe.
Minister Andrei Galbur welcomed the expertise provided by the Organization in its field of competence as determinant within ongoing efforts to advance the internal reforms. It was also greatly appreciated the Commissioner's work and role in promoting and protecting human rights at regional level, as well as in current crisis.
The European official emphasised the priority of justice reform and fight against corruption, assuring the Moldovan authorities of the Organization’s full support in this regard.
As for the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, the Commissioner welcomed the confidence building measures projects undergoing on both banks of the Dniester River.
