President of Latvia views Moldova as partner in European Union

Chisinau, 4 December /MOLDPRES/ – Parliament Speaker, Andrian Candu, met today with President of Latvia, Raimonds Vejonis, at Riga Castle, residency of Latvian head of state in Riga, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
During the meeting, the Latvian President expressed full support for the European path of Moldova and said he has viewed Moldova as a partner within the European Union, encouraging the Chisinau authorities to continue reforms’ implementation.
"You have to be firm in the direction of the country's development, we support the European path. The reforms are needed to make people feel comfortable at home. We are ready to share our experience and knowledge so that your country can easily follow the path of European integration."
The Moldovan Speaker of Parliament thanked President Vejonis for hospitality and constant support that Latvia has had for Moldova in international organizations and European institutions.
"The energy interconnection with the European Union, development of road infrastructure, promotion of justice reforms, anti – corruption fight are our priorities. We want to regain citizens' trust in the European future of Moldova, a direction that we will specify in the Constitution. There is going to be an electoral year and we want to make sure that no political force or personal interests change the direction of Moldova's development," said Andrian Candu.
The Speaker of Parliament is on an official visit to Riga at the invitation of his counterpart, head of Latvian Saeima, Ināra Mūrniece, on 04 – 05 December 2017.
