Deputy director of Moldova's food safety agency detained for passive corruption

Chisinau, 6 December /MOLDPRES/ – Deputy director of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) was detained for passive corruption today.
According to the general prosecutor’s office information and media communication service, during September 2016, he requested free of charge from several economic agents wine, meat, sausages and sausages in order not to create problems in their economic activity. Otherwise, he threatened to create impediments to importing products and issuing import phytosanitary certificates.
The prosecutors documented receipt of requested goods by ANSA Deputy Director, which were loaded into his service car, even at the Agency's headquarters.
Also, on 20 September 2016, the suspect tried to determine the departure of the deputy head of the Edinet district division of ANSA by appointing a person affiliated with him in this post. Also, in case of refusal to fulfill his request, the deputy director threatened the person with starting criminal cases on the fact that the phytosanitary certificates were sold.
The Deputy Director of ANSA was detained for 72 hours. If found guilty, he is at risk from 07 – 15 years in prison with a fine of up to MDL 500 thousand, with deprivation of the right to occupy certain public positions or exercise a certain activity for 10 – 15 years.
