Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/- The term rent of Latin-script schools in the Transnistrian region will be extended to 10 years, compared to a previous year. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Gheorghe Balan made the statement in an interview with MOLDPRES Agency.

The official noted that besides extending the term of lease, payments for utilities will be made identically, regardless of the language of instruction in the educational institution. “This means that the discrimination faced by Latin-script schools will be eliminated. Previously, the rent payments were exaggerated and varied at each educational institution, so that a high school could pay over 600,000 lei/year, and another up to 1.9 million lei/year, although there were no conditions corresponding to the requirements of the educational process”, he said.

At the same time, Balan said that payments will be reduced to a minimum price and the money will be redirected to supporting these schools and developing their capacity. “The prices are to be set and included in the contracts, but we have agreed that they are symbolic. Also, we will work to provide schools with new headquarters, if necessary, and with the appropriate teaching materials, assets for educational process. At the same time, the Latin-script schools will be able to use the lands on which they are located, and this will provide the opportunity to improve the infrastructure in the adjacent area. Also, free movement of teachers and pupils will be ensured, eliminating barriers in this respect”, he said.

Currently, there are eight Moldovan schools with Latin-based teaching which operate on the basis of the educational curriculum of Moldova and studying about 1,400 pupils.
