Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/ - “Russia’s behavior towards Moldovan officials and me is an explicit act of political blackmail and harassment, but which will not affect our commitment concerning the democratic and European development of Moldova.” The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, today made this statement in an interview given to an international news agency.
The Democrats’ leader noted that that “the Russian intelligence services unjustly charge Chisinau officials with ethnic, political and ideological hatred, theft and almost everything they think about” and “the opening of these fabricated files coincided with the advancement in the inquiry on the laundering of 22 billion dollars from Russia through Moldovan banks.”
”They saw that the attempts made so far had failed and they already go with serious abuses,” Plahotniuc told the Reuters agency.
Vladimir Plahotniuc specified that he expected the repressions on behalf of Moscow be enhanced after the Moldovan parliament had voted the draft law prohibiting the foreign propaganda and gave assurances that the Chisinau authorities would not let themselves intimidated and would continue implementing the reforms to strengthen Moldova’s democracy.
The Democratic Party of Moldova has earlier demanded that the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry of Moldova undertakes needed measures to condemn Russia’s harassment policy against Chisinau officials.
The Democrats’ reaction comes after a Russian website has recently published an article reading that PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc would be criminally prosecuted in Russia for committing more crimes on grounds of ethnic, racial, political and ideological hatred.
