Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu has proposed to declare 16 December, the day when His Majesty King Michael I of Romania will be buried, as national mourning day. The speaker will submit a request to this effect to the presidency, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

“To preserve the tradition nicely started by the former president Nicolae Timofti last year, as well as taking into consideration the history linking us to the Royal Family, it would be good for next Saturday to be declared national mourning day,” Andrian Candu said.

On 13 December, a delegation of Moldova’s parliament, led by Speaker Andrian Candu, paid the last respects to His Majesty King Michael I of Romania at the Peles Castle, where the King’s body was put. The speaker conveyed condolences to the Royal Family and signed in the Book of Condolence.

His Majesty King Michael I of Romania died at his private residence from Switzerland on 5 December 2017. The burial will take place at the New Archiepiscopal and Royal Cathedral from Curtea de Arges on 16 December 2017.
