New customs control zone opened at border checkpoint in northern Moldova

Chisinau, 29 December /MOLDPRES/ - A new zone for customs control of lorries has been set up at the Otaci border checkpoint in northern Moldova.   

According to the Customs Service, the action is meant to remove the crowd of lorries at the Otaci customs and border checkpoint.

The new control zone is at a distance of 1.5 km from the border; only the registration of the crossing and the authorization of the export of goods from Moldova’s territory are to be made at the Otaci border checkpoint.  

The zone is provided for the processing of export and re-export operations and the processing of the other customs regimes will be carried out based on a preliminary application.  

The new customs control zone is placed on the highway R-9 Soroca-Otaci (40 km); it is at the cross-roads of more important highways and will have a processing capacity of about 120 lorries per day. The zone will also have a parking for 35 lorries, two warehouses and a chamber for preserving corpora delicti. The overall cost of the works for constructing the control zone is 8.5 million lei, with the sum earmarked by the Customs Service.  

According to the quoted source, presently, the Customs Service is working out feasibility studies for the construction of such customs control zones for another three customs checkpoints which record large traffic volumes: Giurgiulesti (MD- RO), Sculeni, Costesti. The works of extending the infrastructure are planned also for the customs checkpoints Leuseni, Sculeni and Giurgiulesti.
